ADOPTION PROCESS
Now that you have decided to adopt a Dachshund or other rescued dog: PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING
Please "copy" (drag your cursor over and hit copy) the blank application/questionnaire at the bottom of this page and paste it into an e-mail to badgerdogbren@yahoo.com then complete it including your references and send. NOTE: Incomplete questionnaires cannot be processed. If you have questions regarding this process or need help please contact us. If you do not have e-mail call me at
804 561-1272 and I can schedule an appointment to take your application over the phone. If there is no answer please leave a message and I will get back to you.
Once I have received your questionnaire I will review it (usually within 72 hours) and call your references and Vet. If you are approved I will call you for a phone interview with any other questions I have and or speak with you regarding any questions/concerns you may have. At this time we will set up a time to meet the
dog(s) and meet you and your family. Note: we do not do third party adoptions. We would like to meet all family members and any other dogs you have the day of adoption.
Please take note of the adoption fee for your new dog. We do not negotiate on our fees as they are there in order to help recover vetting and other related expenses and allow us to continue our rescue work. (discounts are given for adoption of pairs)
Please note: Rescue NEVER makes any money and we often use our own vacation and or tax return money to pay Vet bills. There is no profit in this and in fact we are typically at a significant loss as the Vet care, food, supplies, etc we provide for our rescue dogs almost always costs more than the fee we ask for. Here are the typical expenses rescue incurs.
Spay/neuter- 105.00-125.00
Blood work prior to spay/neuter if dog is 5yrs or older or if we suspect an illness-87.00
Dental- 150.00-300.00 (if needed)
Exam- 42.00
shots- 30.00
heartworm check-29.00
heartworm prevention-27.00

Food for a typical 3-4 week stay-30.00 (we use only premium natural dog food)

Total costs to prepare a dog for adoption can be in the hundreds for each dog!
The above is for only basic care. This does not include heartworm treatment, treatment for other illness or injury, long term rehabilitation etc. Costs can be in the thousands at times for one dog. Also note: We cannot provide a health guaranty for your rescue dog but will inform you post vet examination(s) of any known health concerns at the time of adoption.
You will also be asked to sign an adoption contract which will state liability and or responsibility of applicant and Rescue.
Our adoption fees are as follows: note: puppies are rare in rescue and go very quickly when we have them
0-11months $300.00 (spay/neuter contract required if less than 6 months)
1-5 $250.00
6-9yrs $225.00
10yrs+ $125.00
Chiweenie puppy - 200.00
Most mixed breeds will have a reduced fee which will be posted

Now that you have read our questionnaire and are ready to adopt please copy, paste then complete and type your name above in acknowledgement and send this to us via e-mail and you will be contacted shortly. If approved we will set up a meeting when a suitable dog is available. On the day of adoption you WILL be asked to sign an adoption contract and will pay your adoption fee. We accept cash and money orders made payable to Harmony Hounds Rescue Ranch (checks taken on occasion) 25.00 fee for returned checks.
Disclaimer: You have 14 days from the date of your adoption to return your rescued dog if she or he is not working out. We do ask that you give your best effort at making the adoption work and HHR or it's represenmtatives will be available for advice and or help with any acclimation issues and or behavioral issues which arrise post adoption.
Adoption fees are returned by mail if the dog is returned to us in the same condition he/she was adopted to you in. If vet care is required due to illness or injury which occured within your 14 day return period this will be deducted from your returned fee. We reserve the right to request Vet records, statements etc. as to any illness and or injury which happened while in your care prior to processing any refunds. All our rescue dogs are examined by a licensed Vet prior to being released for adoption. Any vet records in our possession will be given to you the day of adoption or faxed to you or your Vet within a reasonable amount of time.
